Smile with Confidence, Eat Normally
and Live Pain Free!
Historically, missing teeth have been replaced with removable dentures and bridges which attach to the neighboring teeth. This can potentially damage the teeth and leave you with bigger problems when things fail.
Implants allow us to provide you with a reliable long-term fixed solution for missing teeth. With modern techniques it is now often possible to remove a hopeless tooth and replace it with an implant in just one surgical procedure.
It is very common for people to have more than one tooth missing or even a span of teeth missing. It is no longer necessary to fill these gaps with dentures or to cut down neighbouring teeth for bridges. The team at Mandurah Dental Implant Clinic will restore what has been lost and your next set of teeth can come courtesy of implant dentistry.
The number of implants necessary depends on the number of missing teeth and the quality of your bone. Rest assured that your individual case will be assessed with the latest implant technology and techniques in mind.
Here at the Mandurah Dental Implant Clinic, we possess the necessary skills set to accommodate for all scenarios.
When all of your teeth are missing, replacement used to mean dentures. Dentures are a handicap.
Implants are a way to make sure your next set of teeth look and feel natural. By placing multiple strategically positioned implants around the jaw, they can form the foundations for a full set of beautiful teeth. Nowadays, this often involves using the All on 4 concept
Each case must be carefully considered on an individual basis. The amount and quality of bone must be measured and the direction of any bone and soft tissue loss carefully considered. The number of implants will vary as will the material and techniques in the manufacture of your new teeth.
The team at Mandurah Dental Implant Clinic have many years experience in the consideration of these factors and can help guide you to the ideal solution for your personal situation.
The aim remains the same: To provide you with the confidence and comfort that a full set of natural looking teeth can provide. Over time your implant retained teeth will feel just like natural teeth.
When a tooth or teeth are lost, the bone and gums supporting them begin to diminish immediately. The longer you wait before implant placement the more tissue is lost. Therefore, is it normally best to replace teeth that need to be extracted immediately with a dental implants.
Since the first use of implants in dentistry, technology has changed dramatically. Thread design and surface texture have changed as has our understanding of the processes behind osseointegration.
The result is that modern implants, in many cases, can be loaded immediately following placement. This means teeth straight away.
Clearly circumstances such as the bone quality and quantity must be considered, but it is possible much more often than in the past.
Here at the Mandurah Dental Implant Clinic, we understand the biological benefits of immediate replacement and realise the desire patients have that gaps be filled as soon as possible.
As such we strive to provide you with a temporary but natural looking tooth as soon as possible. We will put a tooth on an implant where possible, where the final result will be enhanced by this rather than jeopardised. This is the majority of single and multiple tooth replacement cases.
When a tooth or teeth are lost, the bone and gums supporting them begin to diminish immediately. The longer you wait before implant placement the more tissue is lost. Each case is different as are the needs of each person. However the careful consideration of the hard and soft tissue as well as the missing teeth in every case should never change.
Gum and bone grafting are techniques to encourage the growth of bone and soft tissue where they have been lost. This allows us to provide an optimum foundation for your dental implants and can be essential in cases where aesthetics are important.
There are many techniques to achieve a natural and lasting result, including block bone grafts, autogenous bone grafts, sinus lifts, allografts and xenografts. The idea behind any graft is that the transferred tissue is eventually replaced by your own tissue to help support the foundations for your new teeth.
The surgeons at the Mandurah Dental Implant Clinic are very experienced in all forms of grafting and will explain the reasons and the rationale behind which method is best for you.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner
If you are missing several teeth, implant-supported bridges can replace them. Dental implants will replace both your lost natural teeth and some of the roots.
What are the advantages of implant-supported bridges over fixed bridges or removable partial dentures?
Dental implants provide several advantages over other teeth replacement options. In addition to looking and functioning like natural teeth, implant-supported bridges replace teeth without support from adjacent natural teeth. Other common treatments for the loss of several teeth, such as fixed bridges or removable partial dentures, are dependent on support from adjacent teeth.
In addition, because implant-supported bridges will replace some of your tooth roots, your bone is better preserved. With a fixed bridge or removable partial denture, the bone that previously surrounded the tooth root may begin to resorb (deteriorate). Dental implants integrate with your jawbone, helping to keep the bone healthy and intact.
In the long term, implants are esthetic, functional and comfortable. Gums and bone can recede around a fixed bridge or removable partial denture, leaving a visible defect. Resorbed bone beneath bridges or removable partial dentures can lead to a collapsed, unattractive smile. The cement holding bridges in place can wash out, allowing bacteria to decay teeth that anchor the bridge. In addition, removable partial dentures can move around in the mouth and reduce your ability to eat certain foods.
How will the implants be placed?
First, implants, which looks like screws or cylinders, are placed into your jaw. Over the next two to six months, the implants and the bone are allowed to bond together to form anchors. During this time, a temporary teeth replacement option can be worn over the implant sites.
Often, a second step of the procedure is necessary to uncover the implants and attach extensions. These temporary healing caps complete the foundation on which your new teeth will be placed. Your gums will be allowed to heal for a couple of weeks following this procedure.
There are some implant systems (one-stage) that do not require this second step. These systems use an implant which already has the extension piece attached. Your periodontist will advise you on which system is best for you.
Finally, replacement teeth, or bridges, will be created for you by your dentist and attached to small metal posts, called abutments. After a short time, you will experience restored confidence in your smile and your ability to chew and speak.
Every case is different, and some of these steps can be combined when conditions permit. Your dental professional will work with you to determine the best treatment plan.
If you have lost multiple teeth whether due to trauma or disease then full mouth dental implants is the best option for you. We have the expertise in giving you a solution to full set teeth replacement through All on four dental implants.
When you miss a few teeth or the entire set of teeth in your mouth, not the facial shape only gets changed but you suddenly start looking much older your age. HOW WE CAN COMPLETE YOUR SMILE
Due to significant advances in dental technology your new dentures will look just like your natural teeth. Dentures fit over the bone and soft tissues of your jaw and are made to match your remaining teeth in both shape and colour. Comprised of metal or acrylic material, dentures can even be custom built with fillings to make your dentures look more like the teeth you’ve lost. It’s important to point out that once your new dentures are fitted, regular check-up appointments with your dentist will be required. Our professional dental surgeons will check to ensure your dentures are comfortable, supportive and properly maintained.
At Mandurah Dental Implant Clinic, our experienced implant dentists perform all types of dental implant supporting procedures, including the full range of bone grafting procedures in order to ensure that there is sufficient bone for dental implants to be securely placed.
A dental surgeon needs to undergo specialised training to carry out bone grafting procedures. Success rates are usually very high if a bone grafting procedure is carried out by a trained and experienced implant dentist and with strict aftercare instructions followed.
There are numerous reasons why you may have insufficient bone. Some of the common reasons for bone loss and bone volume deterioration include:
Our Dental Implant Surgeons do all types of dental bone grafting procedures.
Socket preservation is a procedure in which graft material is placed in the socket of an extracted tooth at the time of extraction in order to reduce the amount of bone loss which occurs and preserve the area in the mouth which supports the root of the tooth.
Following a tooth extraction the jaw bone in the area where the tooth has been taken out usually reduces in thickness. Socket preservation acts to prevent the reduction in thickness enabling a dental implant to be placed. In the event that socket preservation is not carried out before the placement of an implant Ridge Augmentation surgery will be necessary.
An adequate thickness and structure of the jaw bone is essential for implant surgery to be carried out. Socket Preservation is an important procedure which ensures the structure of the socket is suitable for implantation. It is also important to carry out the procedure due to any loss in jawbone thickness affecting the shape of the patient’s facial appearance.
Without sufficient bone, cosmetic problems, recession of the gums and exposure and loss of the implant may occur. Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is a surgical technique where bone is regenerated by using particulate bone grafting material and a membrane.
GBR uses collagen membranes to contain the growth of new bone within an area where there is insufficient bone for function, aesthetics or a prosthetic restoration.
GBR helps the development of hard tissues and is predominantly used in the oral cavity to support new bone growth on an alveolar ridge to allow stability after the placement of dental implants. GBR is a reliable procedure, when the dental surgeon has the requisite experience.
Without sufficient bone, cosmetic problems, recession of the gums and exposure and loss of the implant may occur.
In cases of severe horizontal or vertical loss, a block bone graft aims to restore the original anatomy of the site.
Block bone grafting is a dental surgical technique which uses bone from elsewhere on patents body – usually the jaw (ramus) – to replace the missing bone.
Unlike many other tissue types in the human body, bone tissue regenerates itself and will grow into a space available. Overtime, the grafted material is replaced as the bone grows and integrated with the existing bone.
A block bone graft procedure is carried in order to thicken bone so a dental implant can be placed.
Dental alveolus (plural: alveoli) are the tooth sockets in the jawbone in which the roots of the teeth are located. The ridge of the jawbone where the teeth enter the bone is called the Alveolar Ridge, and the width of this ridge can vary greatly from person to person, from 3mm up to 8mm.
In order to place implants in a thin alveolar ridge, the ridge needs to be split and widened. This sounds horrific, but with a sharp chisel-like hand instrument the outer cortex layer of the alveolar ridge can easily be split and widened by an experienced clinician.
In most cases a dental implant can be placed immediately after the ridge split, because the bone grows back into the gap created and integrates with the implant as it would do quite normally in a straightforward implant placement case.
At Mandurah Dental Implant Clinic, our experienced dentists perform the full array of gum- treatments and soft tissue (gum) graft procedures in order to ensure that there is sufficient soft tissue to improve the aesthetic appearance or to mitigate sensitivity or infection.
A dental surgeon undergoes specialised training to carry out gum treatment and soft tissue grafting procedures. Success rates are usually very high if a soft tissue grafting procedure is carried out by a trained and experienced dentist and strict after care instructions followed. Our dental surgeons are trained and have experience int he full array of soft tissue grafting and gum-related treatments.
Gum recession can be caused by a number of reasons, including:
Mandurah Dental Implant Clinic performs all types of soft tissue and gum-related surgical treatments.
When you lose gum tissue to periodontal (gum) disease, the gum line recedes, making the teeth appear longer. The correct contour of teeth is given by an ’emergence profile’ of the crowns coming through the gum.
Exposed root surfaces have a poor aesthetic appearance and cause sensitivity and make the tooth and root venerable to infection.
If there is sufficient bone volume but insufficient soft tissue volume, a soft tissue graft is performed to prevent or correct recession or to enhance the soft tissue volume in a dental implant site.
A soft tissue graft uses a membrane or tissue taken from the mouth.
There are three types of soft-tissue graft that our clinicians perform:
A free gingival graft is type of soft tissue graft where tissue is taken from the palate and grafted to the recessed gum. This increases the thickness of the gum tissue and protects the exposed root connective tissue graft
A connective tissue graft is the most commonly used procedure to treat an exposed root. A connective tissue graft is where a flap is cut in the roof of the mouth and tissue from under the flap removed. This tissue is the connective tissue and is stitched under the gum tissue that surrounding an exposed root. The flap is then stitched back down.
A pedicle graft uses a flap of gum tissue –the pedicle – from an adjacent tooth. The flap is partially cut away and moved sideways to cover the exposed root and stitched into place.
A pedicle graft usually has a swift healing time since some of the blood vessels are still remaining.
Guided tissue regeneration (GTR) is a dental surgery procedure that uses a collagen membrane for the growth of new gingival(gum) tissue.
In one approach, a piece of biocompatible fabric is placed between the existing bone and a tooth.
One of the more recent procedures is done with the application of a special gel to a diseased root of a tooth. The gel consists partly of proteins which are identical to the proteins naturally found in tooth enamel. This stimulates the growth of healthy tissue and bone matter as the body is tricked into thinking that the formation of a new tooth is occurring.
Another approach involves a section of bio-compatible material being surgically inserted directly between the existing tooth and bone. This promotes the growth of the bone by preventing gum tissue from covering the area where the bone is growing.
A gingivectomy is a dental surgical procedure which removes gum tissue (gingiva) by surgery. A gingivoplasty is a dental surgical procedure which reshapes gum tissue.
A frenectomy – also known as a frenotomy, frenulotomy or frenulectomy – is a surgical dental procedure which removes the frenulum, a small fold of tissue between the upper central front teeth.
Sleep dentistry is the most advanced form of sedation dentistry. We administer either an intravenous sedation or general anaesthetic that puts you to sleep. Then, while you are sleeping, we complete your dental procedures. All anaesthetic treatments are administered by a professional, registered anaesthetist. You are monitored at all times throughout the treatment to ensure that your anaesthesia is at the appropriate level.
Dental fear often keeps patients from getting much-needed care for their teeth. This neglect creates a downward spiral that causes embarrassment and even more fear about getting more complex procedures done. Dental sedation can help our patients feel comfortable and safe during dental procedures.
At Mandurah Dental Implant Clinic, we offer nitrous oxide, which can be used for most types of treatment and helps patients to relax. IV sedation is another option and can help you sleep through your entire procedure.
IV sedation is also a good option for patients who may want to complete multiple procedures during one appointment. This can save you time by eliminating the multiple appointments it often takes to complete a complex treatment plan.
Nitrous is a gas that you breathe in through a mask worn during your procedure. Nitrous does its work quickly to help you feel at ease, and it leaves your system soon after the mask is removed. Because it leaves your system so quickly, you’ll be able to drive yourself home from your appointment. You'll even be able to resume your normal activities!
Nitrous is a safe option for children who need sedation during dental care, and we’re happy to discuss your child’s needs with you.
During IV sedation, medication is delivered intravenously while your heart rate and vital signs are constantly monitored. Patients feel like they’re asleep during IV sedation, and typically have little to no memory of their procedure. This option is ideal for patients with severe anxiety or dental phobia, disabilities, special needs, gag reflexes, or time constraints in getting multiple procedures done.
Because it does take some time for the medication to wear off, you will need someone to drive you home after your appointment
